B.F.A. Graphic Design
As aspiring graphic designer, I have been able to explore many different styles and ways of design that have heavily influenced my work. Most of my interests and hobbies tie into what I like to design.
I have grown up always loving outdoor activities and sports. I have always loved being outside, even if it was just exploring the woods as a young boy. Because I love these activities like fishing, for instance, I try to incorporate these types of themes and passions in my design work. I find when I am designing things that have to do with my interests and hobbies, I am much more focused and care much more about the project allowing for the most satisfying and successful design.
Because I originally grew up loving to draw, I figured graphic design would be the perfect track for me. Since I was always trying to make my drawings as realistic as possible, I approached my design work in the same way. I have been drawn to using traditional and realistic imagery that easily explains the theme or idea for my projects. An example of this would be my “Black Dog IPA” package design. For this project I chose a black Labrador retriever as the logo, which in my mind immediately implants the imagery of the eastern shore and outdoors in people’s imagination.
As I am becoming more experienced as a graphic designer, I have started to acquire new approaches to design. I never really focused on how important text is in graphic design, so I have started to make projects where the text is the overall design. It is said there are no rules in typography and that is how I try to think when designing my projects. I find this approach to design is cutting edge and a more appealing style. I find graphic design to be something that I have become passionate about and look forward on what is to come of it.
