To me art is an escape. Much like in a novel or a film, the world within a piece of art is a world unto itself, a world that tells its own story. A finished composition can evoke a multitude of emotions, can remind us of times past or can inspire us with self-reflection. Creating art to me is an expression of who I am and gives me the opportunity to tell my own story.
When making my work I enjoy completely immersing myself in the project. I begin every piece the exact same way, with research. To me, research is key when staying true to the message I am trying to relay and is the foundation of any quality project I produce. After my research I take out my sketchbook and get to work. Sketching and illustrating my ideas on a piece of paper is where my signature style comes out. My sketches are almost always followed up with my affinity for using illustration pens to add dramatic but elegant line work to most of my signature pieces.
I label myself as both graphic designer and illustrator because I am an artist to my core. My love for art and telling stories through my chosen mediums is what motivates the work I create. Although there is nothing like remaining loyal to the original way art was created before technology; I enjoy finding new projects and new ways to produce the best possible finished product.
Summarizing myself as an artist I would say that there is an ongoing theme of matured skill, which is clearly seen through my attention to detail but also a tenderness and childlike quality. Over all when I decide to pursue a new piece my end goal is to leave my audience with a story that they can create with their own imagination.
