The essence of graphic design to me is to create a visual solution. I try to solve a client’s vision for a product by collaborating with the client to do what is best for the product, which in turn makes the client happy. I create a visual solution by researching the company, the product, cultural trends, target audience and other graphic designers. Graphic design has also enhanced my fine art by creating more interesting compositions and subject matter, which creates value to the viewer and the artist. For instance, I use the software and skills from graphic design to construct compositions for my paintings. I also use it to enhance my photography into more of a digital image.
I have worked at nine businesses to develop my professional graphic design work, so I could become the best designer for what people need. I think this is why when you see my body of work there is not a lot of consistency because I have created t-shirt designs, information graphics, book covers and more. Having a variety of experience doing different work in a specific field makes you more well rounded. I am able to take experiences from the past and use them to create something that will satisfy myself and the client.
Design is an important form of communication in life and when done properly can persuade a viewer. I believe I have learned the fundamental skills of graphic design and have had enough experience implementing it in a professional setting that I am able to excel as a graphic designer.
