As an artist, I offer my duties as a tour guide to the viewer, guiding them through the kaleidoscope that is my mind to see the beauty in a subject. As a graphic designer, I enjoy organic forms, clean lines and pops of color-- a 180 from my previous inverted black and white style.
I started off my artistic journey focusing solely on realism. However through graphic design, I found a love of graphic illustration that led to my current style. In my work, I focus on the subject, realistic form and surrealistic components-- such as odd color-- distorted photographs or other images. Presently my humor is reflected in my work, as my new pieces reflect my personality.
While I identify myself an artist first, I am also a dedicated graphic designer. As a designer I am responsible for bringing a client’s vision of their business to life. When a civilian sees that logo, holds that business card, looks up at that billboard while they are waiting in traffic; that is a reflection of my client’s business and my own. The design world is competitive and I am no stranger to the fast paced nature of it all. When meeting with a client I zero in on what they want their business to represent. I do my research as well as really involve myself with their company. I create multiple sketched variations, and work with the client until they are satisfied with the progress. Next I scan in the sketches, vector the imagery, and set the appropriate typeface(s). Sometimes I go through multiple meetings, work at odd hours, have tight deadlines and difficult clients, but it is worth it. As an artist it’s my business to create a successful composition. As a designer I work to create the face of a successful business.
